Sunway University
Sunway University (originally Sunway College) was formed with the belief and understanding that higher education is vital to the progress of the Nation. The institution received an auspicious start in 1987 when it was officially opened by the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah Alhaj, the Sultan of Selangor Darul Ehsan.
Within a short span of time, its student numbers outgrew the original premises, leading to the development of a new, purpose-built campus, complete with a comprehensive range of modern academic and residential facilities.
Before becoming Sunway University, the institution was upgraded to University College status by the Minister of Higher Education on 12 August 2004. The approval letter was presented by the then Higher Education Minister YB Dato’ Dr Shafie bin Haji Mohd Salleh to YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah, AO, during the launch of the National Patriotic Day celebrations at Sunway.
On 31 January 2011, our Founder, Chairman and Chancellor, Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah received the certificate from YB Dato’ Seri Mohd Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia, upgrading us to be a full-fledged University.
