With the epidemic raging, more and more young people are realizing the importance of a country’s health care system. Malaysia used to be the world’s no.1 medical country, but it is also unable to withstand the current epidemic. The country’s weak medical research and development capacity means that we have to increase the budget deficit to buy vaccines from foreign countries for the universal vaccination program. This is undoubtedly one of the reasons for delaying the complete elimination of the epidemic.
It can be seen that people’s medical awareness, national medical talent reserve and relevant research need to be improved, so as to enhance the overall medical development of the country. There are still some universities contributing actively in our medical field. We, young generations, even those who are younger, should take our responsibilities on future medical development.
The medical profession is a specialized field. Aside from nursing and pharmacology (medical services), the most complex and diverse but also the most fundamental is the medical profession (medicine). Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree is a stepping-stone in this field. Commonly, MBBS programme is a 5-year programme, which is divided into 2 phases, phase 1 comprises year 1 and 2, with the learning of basic medical sciences in the campus, while the second phase is clinical phase, to learn about patient care in clinical settings in the hospital and with the community.
Normally, after the five years’ learning, graduates will be provisionally registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and begin their 2-year housemanship in government hospitals. This is a journey that every doctor has to go through with it.
